When should a couple go to counselling?

Earlier is usually better. Couples often wait until problems have gone on for years. Consider counselling if you keep having the same fight, have lost trust, feel distant, or face a major decision.

Both of you do not have to be sure about staying together. Counselling can also help you separate with less harm.

If there is violence or fear in the relationship, couples counselling may not be safe. Speak with a counsellor individually or call a family violence line.

This is general information, not therapy or a diagnosis. Everyone's situation is different.
